Sick again...Heart Palpitations
About two weeks ago, I felt sick-heart palpitations, queasy stomach, etc.-and decided that maybe the Prilosic was making me sick. I stopped taking it and felt fine the next day. For the next two weeks I felt "normal," so I figured the Prilosec was making me sick.
Apparently I was wrong. On Wednesday 2/2/05, I had lunch at the usual time of 0500 hours. Then at 0630 hours, I was sitting on AA reading when suddenly the heart palpitations started again, just like a few months ago when I went to emergency. I didn't quite feel like blacking out, but I did feel my face flushing, some tightness in the chest and a ringing in my ears. My pulse was 130 BPS. I prepared to take a nitro tablet just in case...I didn't want to black out at the post office. Before I took the nitro, the symptoms settled down a little and I put the nitro back in the bottle. My pulse remained high, however.
When I got home, I was starting to feel better, but my pulse didn't drop until about 0930 hours, and then it was still up about 80 BPS.
When I got up Wednesday night for work, I didn't feel well. My stomach felt a little queasy, so I had a small meal. All night at work, every time I got up to answer a machine call, I would burp. It also felt like my stomach was bloated and a couple of times I burped up a little dinner. It was like my dinner was just sitting on my stomach not being digested. I skipped lunch and waited until I got home to eat a few cheese crackers and cashews. A few times during the late morning at work I felt my heart flutter. When your heart flutters, it is very frightening!
Now it's Friday. I am starting my two days off and I feel a little better than this morning. I started taking the Prilosec and Atenonol as prescribed again. Next week, James W. wants me to start working OT again; I hope I can do it. If I continue to have trouble, I will see the doctor again and tell her what's happening. One thing I won't do, and that's to go to emergency. Under my current health plan option, a visit to emergency would cost me $500 right off the top! THAT MEANS THAT IF I HAVE AN ACTUAL HEART ATTACK, I WON'T BE MAKING ANY MORE BLOG ENTRIES.
Jamie suggested that my coffee is too strong. I looked up health problems with coffee, and there is great debate about it. Two to three cups a day seem ok, even beneficial to health, but beyond that, certain health problem seem to crop up. One of these is an increase in adrenelin, resulting in a higher level of cortisol-a stress hormone-and that can lead to heart problems. So, I will try cutting down on the coffee consumption starting tomorrow. I do make my coffee strong, so my "two to three" cups a day equate into many more for me. The number of cups of very strong coffee I drink during the workweek is six before work and three at work. I will wait a few days to see the the coffee decrease has any affect.
